Trailblazer Technologies was established in 2006 by two partners, who had just exited from long and exalted careers in the plant nutrition industry. Alastair Forsyth had built a substantial business in Ocean Agriculture (Pty) Ltd over 30 years, which was then a leading speciality plant nutrition business in sub-Saharan Africa. Alastair sold the business to an LBO consortium led by employees and outside investors in early 2006. Alastair then founded Trailblazer Technologies and is responsible for commercial operations as Managing Director.
The second founding partner was John Bewsey, a Pr Nat Sci, Professional and Chemical Engineer who had come out of a 40-year career in several chemical industries with much of his latter career having been spent in developing innovative process technologies for producing plant nutrition products for the Agrofert Group. John is a founding partner of Trailblazer Technologies and is responsible for technology and product development. John is also a Fellow of the British Institute of Chemical Engineering and Chartered Engineering and a Fellow of SAIChemE.
In 2008, James Cockburn joined the team as a partner and director responsible for finance and legal. James is a Chartered Accountant, who has been the Chief Operating Officer of Ocean Agriculture and then, until recently, the CFO of Deli Spices Group, a food ingredients business employing more than 500 employees. James was appointed Chairman of the Deli Spices Group in 2019.
